The Kumar Philanthropic Foundation

The Kumar Family Philanthropic Foundation funds and engages with non-profit organizations on a global basis with particular emphasis on Singapore, India and USA. The Foundation is funded by Sonia Nayaham and Srihari Kumar from their family office, Lionrock Capital. We focus primarily on the areas of Education and Old-Age Care.

While we are a young foundation, we take a long term view of our partnerships and look to build strategic relationships. We look to provide funding on a consistent basis and prefer to engage with our partners as advisers or change enablers.

In the area of Education, we focus on innovation, skill development and scholarships. We support low income deserving students at the school and college levels, and have supported such students at organizations such as Shanti Bhavan Children’s Project, Republic Polytechnic, University of Pennsylvania and the Kiran Anjali Project.

We are active believers in encouraging students to test the boundaries of innovation to solve the most pressing global challenges such as climate change, poverty, education and gender equality. We established and support the Kumar Sustainability and Innovation Prize at the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore and the support the President Engagement and Innovation Prizes at the University of Pennsylvania. We have also supported the development of the Vagelos Laboratory for Energy Science and Technology.

In the area of Old-Age care, we believe in the twin concepts of successful aging and taking care of challenged seniors. We do not view aging as a problem, but as an opportunity to motivate and empower a growing senior population globally. We support RSVP, a charity focused on senior volunteerism and in the area of dementia care, we support organizations such as Yong-en Care Center and Montessori Seniors.

Our foundation is still in its infancy and we continue to test various models to create lasting impact and sustainable change not only for our generation but for many more to come.
